The Breakers, messengers for the city that were masters of the bow and the Slingers, pistol-toting tamers of the wilds just to name a few. Along the way are training grounds that the various organizations of Caelondia used in their duties to the city. Weapons and skills are acquired in the various levels The Kid must journey through. The Kid is able to carry two weapons at once and prepare a single Secret Skill, special moves that are mostly tied to the very weapons The Kid wields. Moving about is simple enough in and of itself with 360 directional movement and evasive rolls for added mobility. Taking control of The Kid, Bastion plays from an isometric perspective. With the goal of reclaiming the city’s Cores to power the Bastion, the place where everyone agreed to go in case of trouble, The Kid must contend with the broken locales, self-interested creatures and the dire visage of that which once was in order to restore the world to a rightful state. The first of many interesting and varied weapons for The Kid to defend himself with against the many creatures left behind in the Calamity’s wake. It does not take long for The Kid to be reunited with his weapon of choice in his tours of service to the city of Caelondia, a hammer bearing the city’s name. Fortunately, The City’s Crest that The Kid wears upon his back has the power to restore just enough of the world back where it belongs in order to move about, the pieces of the world falling or rising back into place should The Kid’s movement bring him close enough. Fallen below into a seemingly infinite void with only bits and pieces of floating ground, rock and construction to move about upon. One is immediately presented with the complication The Calamity has caused: The world is gone. Ain’t so simple with this one.” Such are the words of the narrator, an elderly gentleman who sets the tone as he recounts the tale of The Calamity and The Kid who singlehandedly journeyed in the effort to restore the world as it was known. Voiced by Logan Cunningham in his debut voice work performance, the first thing one experiences upon beginning the game is the statement, “Proper Story’s supposed to start at the beginning. it earned them some good will towards PC gamers for the first and last time. Released initially in July 2011 on the XBox Live Marketplace and ported to many platforms thereafter including but not limited to functionally all PC operating systems, PlayStation 4 and iOS, Bastion was the first published release by developer Supergiant Games and has won over 100 industry awards. From here we have the luxury of combining oratory, the oldest form of storytelling with the newest form, video games in Bastion. Over the years storytelling has adopted many forms, shaped many cultures and fueled many artistic endeavors. Storytelling is a medium that has existed in human culture since we began as a species.

Event Communication Solutions Connect Your Team Douglas’ knockout of Douglas was indeed surreal.īuster Douglas has a lot to teach the education reform movement: Have a smart strategy, stick with it, and when you suffer a setback, pick yourself up off the canvass and keep fighting. The only television shock that I can compare it to would be watching the election returns in 2016, when my son told me I looked like I had seen a ghost. I can confirm the assertion about remembering where you were: I watched this fight live, with my father, in the house I grew up in about four months before graduating from college. As a joyful Douglas was being mobbed by his cornermen, Merchant told the HBO audience, “This makes Cinderella … look like a sad story.” It’s been said that every boxing fan recalls exactly where he or she was when this happened, much like the assassination of John F. In the 10 th round, the seemingly invincible champion suffered his first knockout:įor anyone who watched this live, it was surreal. Fighting Iron Mike Tyson inside was a one-way ticket to the canvass.ĭouglas’ strategy took him to the eighth round, but in that round, Douglas departed from his strategy and fought Tyson toe-to-toe, resulting in:ĭouglas got up from the canvass and resumed his strategy, and his jabs took their toll:īoxing is an unforgiving sport for those who have trouble seeing out of one of their eyes. Douglas, however, had a height-reach advantage and a strategy as Tyson attempted to get inside, Douglas tagged him with a jab, and then wrapped him up. Tyson, with a 37-0 record, appeared unbeatable and usually knocked opponents out in the early rounds. Which is why Tyson-Douglas took place in Japan. Tyson’s dominance in those days became problematic for his promoter, Don King, who had increasing difficulty persuading the casinos in America to dole out millions of dollars in site fees for bouts that sometimes didn’t last as long as the national anthem. Tokyo hosted the fight, and as ESPN explained: 11, 1990, as 42-1 underdog Buster Douglas not only gave undefeated heavyweight champion Mike Tyson a fight he knocked the champion out. The biggest upset in heavyweight boxing history occurred Feb. So, in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak. This trip is particularly important for deuteragonist Langa, who has never been to the beach before. A set of different circumstances-seeking out a healing hot spring, babysitting, picking up girls on vacation, and a business trip-coincidentally brings our favorite skateboarding found family to the same island. This is my favorite episode of one of my favorite anime ever. SK8 the Infinity – “Steamy Mystery Skating?!” (S1 Ep6) Food Wars is an ecchi anime, so it’s honestly surprising that it took five seasons for them to show the girls wearing bikinis… 4. They’re super busy creating menus, procuring ingredients, interacting with customers, and of course cooking however, in true beach episode fashion, blue skies and bathing suits abound. Their task is to successfully run temporary beachside restaurants for three days. The Totsuki Culinary Academy students don’t have time for the play and relaxation that usually accompany a day at the beach, because in this episode, they’re undergoing an important exam. Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma – “Final Exams” (S5/The Fifth Plate Ep1) Instead of a rigorous training montage (which is what their beach trip was supposed to involve), we see the girls frolicking in the ocean, relaxing on the sand, playing the classic watermelon smashing game, and the quintessential activity for adolescent female bonding: having a pillow fight. The µ’s girls reap the same benefit with their composer Maki when their leader, Honoka, proposes a training camp at the beach and commandeers usage of Maki’s summer home. Of course, I loved her for more than just her money, but having access to her beach house in the summer was a major bonus. When I was a kid, my best friend was super rich. Love Live! School Idol Project – “No Senpai Allowed!” (S1 Ep10) (It’s also ironic that Ichigo has cat DNA yet loves the water.) By the end of the episode, Lettuce awakens a new power that lets her turn into a mermaid because, in addition to having a beach episode, Tokyo Mew Mew also follows the shoujo anime rule that anything can be accomplished using the power of friendship and believing in yourself. Although the girls amuse themselves with swimming, surfing, sunbathing, chowing down on shish kebabs, and sipping fruity drinks, the real focus of the episode is the surprising fact that Lettuce doesn’t know how to swim despite being infused with the DNA of a porpoise. Magical girls have summer vacations just like any other Japanese schoolgirl, and fortunately for the Mew Mews, they have rich bosses that can treat them to a trip to the beach. Tokyo Mew Mew – “The Power of Kindness: May the Wish Come True in the Sea Depths” (S1 Ep19) Here are 10 examples of the infamous “beach episode”! 1. And of course, the sky and ocean are always perfect hues of blue. If an anime episode takes place at the beach, you can expect to encounter at least one of the following: cooking and eating grilled foods swimming in the ocean telling scary stories at night playing beach volleyball boys trying to pick up girls in swimsuits relaxing under an umbrella smashing watermelons and/or sports teams undergoing training camps. This situation happens so often, in fact, that certain activities are almost guaranteed to make an appearance. Summer is finally here, which means it’s officially beach season! A common trope in anime across all genres is the presence of a “beach episode.” As the name suggests, in these episodes characters take a trip to the beach. You’ll need to customize these if you want different behavior. To learn more about Framer Motion, our tutorial will cover these topics:įramer Motion uses spring animations by default. If you’re currently using Pose, I would recommend updating to Framer Motion because Pose has been deprecated. One difference is that whereas Framer Motion only has support for React, Pose has support for React-Native and Vue. Like Pose, it’s built upon promotion, which is a low-level, unopinionated animation library, but it provides abstractions to streamline the process.įramer Motion improves upon and simplifies the API in a way that couldn’t have been done without breaking changes and rewriting. Think of Framer Motion as more of an improvement or reinvention of an existing animation library than a brand new one.įramer Motion is the successor to Pose, which was one of the most popular animation libraries used with React. If you’re like me, your first thought when you read this headline might be, “Why do we need yet another animation library for React? This is getting tiring!” Some information may still be out of date. Framer Motion tutorial: How to easily create React animationsĮditor’s note: This post was last updated 29 July 2021. I also like writing technical blog posts to help others with difficult topics I encounter. The team came up with very good examples such as this drag to reorder tabs component which contains every concept used in the task list example that I introduced in this blog post.Īfter that, I'd try to see where you could sprinkle some layout animation magic on your own projects □.Glyn Lewington Follow Web developer with a focus on frontend, particularly React. I'd suggest taking a look at some of the complex examples provided in the Framer Motion documentation. It may sound overkill to spend so much time reading and working around the issues we showcased in this blog post, but trust me, it's worth it! I hope this blog post can serve you as a guide/helper to make your own animations look absolutely perfect ✨, especially when working on the nitty-gritty details of your transitions. Whether it's for some basic use cases, such as the Notification List we've seen in the first part, adding little details like the shared layout animations from the tabs components, to building reorderable lists with complex transitions: layout animations have no more secrets to you. You now know pretty much everything there is to know about Framer Motion layout animations □. Want to run this example yourself and hack on top of it? You can find the full implementation of this example on my blog's Github repository. What if we wanted to build a reusable component that has a shared layout animation defined and use it twice within the same page? Well, both seemingly distinct shared layout animation would end up with the same layoutId prop which, as a result, would cause things to get a bit weird: Additionally, I'll give you some of my own tips and tricks that I use to work around some of the glitches that layout animations can trigger and examples on how to combine them with other tools from the library such as AnimatePresence to achieve absolutely delightful effects in your projects! My objective is for this article to be the place you go to whenever you need a refresher on layout animations or get stuck. Thus, I felt it was time to write a dedicated deep dive into all the different types of layout animations. However, these are a bit hidden or lack some practical examples to fully understand them. On top of the API changes and the many new features that the Framer team added to the package around layout animations, I noticed that there are lots of little tricks that can make your layout animations go from feeling clumsy to absolutely ✨ perfect ✨. Despite the updated section I added back in November, it still felt like I was not touching upon several points on this subject and that some of them were incomplete. So much so that I recently got a bit lost trying to build a specific layout animation and my own blog post that actually looked into this specific type of animation was far from helpful □. Framer Motion has changed a lot since I last wrote about it. Thank you for the memories, Steinway Billiards - you will always hold a special place in our hearts. Well if y'all want a little update, I did some checking (being scared by Chris's warning of potential failure!) and finally figured out that the BJU world history text I want to use is actually almost identical to the current 3rd edition, save for chapters added at the beginning and end and the reformatting, visuals, sidebars, that kind of thing. They just revised it and it would definately allow you the freedom to supplement as the BJU text is four times as thick! Yes the Abeka book is a one semester text. We actually used this for my ds this spring to make a PA history timeline (the only one we ever completed!). If you scroll down to about the middle of the page you will find the templates. Here is a link to a really cool timeline figure template that allows you to make your own figures. If your dd is asking for one, it will probably go very well. What went wrong was I thought I wanted a timeline and my dc did not! Of course when we start falling behind the timeline goes out the window. I'm also looking at some national geographic books, trying to see if I can find one that has two page spreads and gets you through painlessly and joyfully. Rhonda, I didn't know the Abeka text was a semester class. So you're saying doing it via Kingfisher falls apart? I need to know exactly what goes wrong. I thought they'd give some synthesis but be straightforward. Ooo, thanks for the Walch maps link! I had missed that!! I actually ordered some walch power basics student study guides to go with this really old BJU world history text I have. I thought it was reasonable, but I'm with you on not wanting to do something that is going to fall apart and flop. I mean she specifically ASKED to do a timeline with a survey and get all the countries and get the things aligned in her mind. I guess I oughtta hear the honest truth now about what can go wrong. Oh squirrell! So what did you do with the timeline thing that failed? You mean you tried working through Kingfisher? Wowsers, gulp. I wonder if you could incorporate something like that into your history? Or what about something like World History Map Activites: I have used that for dd and liked it.ĭon't tell anyone but every time we have tried the timeline route it has been an "epic fail" as my dc would say! We are going to give it the ole' college try again this fall when my ds does Ancient history. One thing I liked about the class was the teacher had them do little projects such as watch a video and answer questions about the country. my ds just took a world geography class at our homeschool group and they used the Abeka text. Sounds like the activity manual is a skip, at least for us. We could read, make maps and label the things, do some projects, etc. Even if it's just a survey, it might be a good starting point. I haven't seen the BJU text to know if it does that. If I had something that really connected the geography and the history, that would be fabulous. Guess I'll go look at the Glencoe text as well. I want something *more* without turning it into an AP class. I don't really want just to learn the names of the countries. She loves history (LOVES), so it can easily be 2-3 hours a day for us, just very encompassing, with projects and reading and whatnot. Just trying to sort out how I'll do that. I wanted to integrate some geography into that. Dd is a huge history buff, but we have never, gasp, done a timeline! So I think next year we're going to work through Kingfisher and do a timeline of all the continents (her request) and just pull things together. What I'm actually trying to do is a one year world history and geography survey, integrating the two. I'm trying to figure out if I can use it as a spine. Rhonda, thanks, that's what I wanted to know! It's not quite as over the top as I need. The game is about your bike gang and your way to victory and conquering the roads. Road Redemption is a bike game for PC that has much to offer and it’s a very underrated game if you ask me. Let me warn you, this is only for hardcore gamers. No clean and streamlined racing here, but an ultimate road carnage and killing in order to get to the final goal. It’s a game where you can use various melee weapons to dispatch your enemies, so forget about clean racing for a second. Seriously, this game is badass and it’s all about that Road Rage. Road Rage is exactly what it sounds like, a game where you’ll be taken on an epic journey of driving bikes and kicking the butts of the other drivers. On top of that, the game lets you do racing with both bikes and cars, and it’s really a sight to be seen. While GTA V doesn’t put a big emphasis on melee combat, Sleeping Dogs has excellent brawling scenarios and great fights. Boasting the same game mechanics as driving motorcycles and cars, exploring the open world, and shooting, Sleeping Dogs is an excellent GTA-like game. Sleeping Dogs is like a GTA V packed in another box, packing, or whatever you want. Both multiplayer and singleplayer is great, meaning that you’ll have a lot of long-lasting fun. In my opinion, GTA V is easily one of the greatest games of the 21st century. Apart from the main story missions, you can drive cars and motorcycles and even do some racing for more cash. At its core, GTA V is a shooter game, which offers a lot more than just going and shooting everything you see. Upon its release, GTA V renewed the open-world genre and quickly became the staple of open-world games. It’s one of the best racing games ever period! I like that the developer included various cameras, and of course, a first-person camera where you can see the cockpit of your car or the steering wheel of your bike. Sure, it would be cool to drive a Bugatti or Lamborghini, but hey, you should try bikes! Bikes in this game are absolutely phenomenal. The reason for this is the huge open world that the game offers, plus over a hundred vehicles to drive. Test Drive Unlimited is regarded as one of the best racing and driving games of all time. It’s so hard to beat, especially when you get to the final set of races. On top of that, Trials Fusion is bloody HARD. Of course, this is an arcade game and I’m glad it is because we couldn’t be able to perform such tricks in real life. This racing game is based on the real-life trials series, where the contender needs to go through the various obstacles and finish the race. Trials Fusion is a Ubisoft masterpiece! It’s a 2.5D game, which means that the gameplay is in two planes, while the rendering is in 3D. Furthermore, there is a selection of bikes that you can customize and do what you want in order to win the race. The controls are great, responsive, and perfectly tailored to this type of game. The game isn’t just awesome because it has Valentino Rossi in itself, but really, the developers did a great job of optimizing this game and letting us enjoy it. When we mentioned MotoGP 17, we also mentioned the most popular drivers and kings of bike racing, right? Well, this lad here, Valentino Rossi is going to show you how the motorcycle is driven. This means that you can easily choose between the three and enjoy whatever you want or need for this type of game. The best thing is that the game offers an arcade, simulation, and multiplayer mode. The bikes feel great, the sense of speed is surreal and the engines roaring under the “hood” of your motorcycle never gets old. This computer bike game is phenomenal, guys! Although it’s an old game, it still manages to be on point. SBK X: Superbike World Championship is another sports game that lets you use the fastest bikes on the Earth to conquer the stages. Also, there’s a great multiplayer which you can access at any time, however, I don’t see many players there, which is really a shame. If you follow MotoGP on your TV, you’ll be glad that you can race against the most popular MotoGP drivers and… well, maybe get your ass beaten if you aren’t good enough. MotoGP 17 is the newest addition to the already great franchise and it brings the new gameplay, graphics, and game modes into play. While racing with a motorcycle, it doesn’t always have to be arcade or childish, instead, we can play a great simulation game like MotoGP 17. The Stryfe is the most commonly modified flywheel blaster, owing to its small size and reasonable price. Flywheel blasters use a dart pusher or conveyor belt to push the darts into a flywheel, which increases the speed of the dart enough to launch it out of the blaster. If you want to get started, getting a basic spring or flywheel blaster will be a good choice, seeing as most Nerfers are more willing to modify cheaper blasters than more expensive ones. There are lots of different styles and designs of Nerf guns, but the basic models are usually the best for modifying, since they're both the cheapest and the most common. |
